My name is Joe Tomoleoni and I am a nature and wildlife photographer with a genuine love of wild animals and wild places. It is my passion for the conservation of wildlife and ecosystems that led me to my career as a marine biologist and wildlife photographer. I am based in central California, but travel the world in search of new and fascinating photo subjects.

I shoot with a variety of  Canon DSLRs and mostly Canon lenses from ultra-wide fisheye to super-telephoto. Underwater I use Ikelite housings and strobes. For support, I use Gitzo tripods and monopods whenever possible and I also employ an assortment of filters to obtain realistic and sometimes artistic exposures.

My photography career started underwater and blossomed to include terrestrial animals and landscapes. My travels have led me to some of the world's most amazing and untouched places; from the open savannas of Africa and the sweltering rainforests of South America, to the glacial fjords of Alaska and the coral reefs of Indonesia.   During these adventures I seek to capture unique images of the charismatic megafauna and incredible landscapes of the region, but also and the underappreciated, overlooked, or misunderstood creatures as well. The images on this website showcase a selection of my best work.

Every animal and landscape pictured on this website was photographed in the wild.  It is my hope that you will leave this website with a better understanding and appreciation for the wild animals that live among us. So come back often and join me in my travels to the corners of the globe. But most of all, I implore you to be a good steward of our oceans, mountains, forests, deserts, and other wild lands. In our lifetime, hundreds of species will disappear from this earth, some before we've ever gotten the chance to study them. By being conservation-minded and living healthy, sustainable lifestyles, we can do our best to ensure that the wild animals that capture our hearts and minds today will still be around for generations to come.
